SUMMARY: On August 31, 2015, detectives from Specialized Investigations Division – Crimes Against Children Detail were contacted by Derry Police Department in New Hampshire regarding a twelve year old female receiving lewd photographs and messages from an adult male, Christopher Pate, who lives in Morongo Valley. Crimes Against Children detectives initiated an internet crimes investigation and learned Pate was conversing with the victim using various social media sites. Pate emailed nude photographs to the victim and elicited similar photographs from the victim. Pate also arranged to meet the victim at a waterpark in Palm Springs for the purposes of having sex and other lewd acts. Detectives collaborated with Derry Police Department, Palm Springs Police Department, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Morongo Basin Station and the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office and obtained an arrest warrant for Pate. Pate arrived at the waterpark at the arranged meeting time in an older model Plymouth Voyager mini-van with items indicating he intended to complete the sex acts. Palm Springs Police Department arrested Pate for the warrant in the parking lot of the waterpark. Deputies from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Morongo Basin Station took custody of Pate and returned him to San Bernardino County for interviews and booking. A search warrant was served on Pate’s home at the 9000 Block of Ole Street, in Morongo Valley, and on his mini-van. Additional items were seized by detectives as evidence of the crime. Pate was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail Facility for violation of Penal Codes 288.4(B), Contact Minor with Intent to Commit Sexual Acts and 311.4(C), Elicit Obscene Matter. He is being held in lieu of $225,000 bail. Pate is scheduled for arraignment this afternoon in Morongo Basin Superior Court.
