Vermont Man Charged With Attempted Sexual Assault
On October 31, 2017, the Lebanon Police Department received a crime tip through our online submission portal LebanonNH.gov/CLUE. The anonymous submission advised of a Craigslist advertisement that appeared to be targeting younger and possibly underage children for sex.
Lebanon Police Officers located the advertisement and engaged in conversation with the individual responsible for the post. The man was later identified as James Taylor, age 25, of Quechee, Vermont.
This investigation led to James Taylor arriving at a baseball field in West Lebanon with his 2 year-old child in his vehicle to meet, whom he believed to be a 15-year-old female for the purpose of sexual contact.
James Taylor was arrested and charged with Attempted Felonious Sexual Assault, Certain Use of Computer Services Prohibited, both Class B Felonies and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a Misdemeanor. The Endangering charge resulted from Taylor bringing his child with him during the commission of the crime. Taylor’s bail was set at $20,000 cash and he was transported to the Grafton County House of Corrections pending arraignment in the Grafton County Superior Court on November 2, 2017. The 2 year-old child was released to the custody of the child’s mother.
The Lebanon Police Department is an affiliate of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC).
